I had always wondered why people that had recently lost weight most of the time end up gaining back the pounds that they had lost plus some more. I have done some research and found that when people gain weight their fat cells grow in size and number. When you lose weight your fat cells decrease in size but will never decrease in number. That is one of the reasons why it makes it much harder to keep weight off once someone has lost it. The more fat cells someone has the harder it is to keep the fat amount out of the cells. Coupled with this Many of the people that lose weight have a hard time keeping it off because of the temptations they are faced with in everyday life.
When losing weight the best way is to couple good nutrition with low impact cardio and weight training. On average the best way to lose weight is to lose between one and a half to two pounds a week. This does mean a longer period of weight loss but it is the more healthy and creates better results in the end when compared to rapid weight loss. Also this way of weight loss creates more of a habit and a way of life rather than rapid weight loss. Rapid weight loss is less healthy and does not create a way of life like slow weight loss does.
In the end when lossing weight someone should choose to lose small bits of weight over a long period of time. This creates a way of life of eatin healthy and working out. It also ensures less weight gain in the future and less rapid relapse of fat growth.
o I really enjoyed this blog, because one of the hardest parts of losing weight is keeping it off. I have known many people who lost 10 or 15 pounds but then end up gaining back 20 only a short while after they have lost all the weight. I also liked the part about losing weight over a long period of time. Most people think that if they’re not losing 5 pounds of more weeks then they’re not making any progress. But I do agree that losing weight over a long period of time teaches you better life practices and is overall healthier.
ReplyDeleteI agree with these weight loss "rules" if you will. I am gym enthusiast. I have, however, just discovered the benefits of eating healthy even to gain or maintain weight. Eating healthy foods whether you are on a low calorie diet to lose weight or a high protein diet to burn fat and build lean protien I have found that nutrition is the most important factor. I enjoyed your blog. If anyone else is interested in eating healthy in order to burn fat and build lean muscle I suggest looking up Rob Riches on youtube or google. Man is a genius and ripped beyond belief. Also, he gives healthy tips for free.
ReplyDeleteThis article was very relatable because my mother works for weight watchers and one of the big things the company promotes is, not how fast you loose the weight, but that you keep a healthy diet while loosing the weight. This is important because if you do not maintain a healthy diet and loose the weight too fast, you are more likely to gain the weight back. This blog was very interesting because its SO true! On MTV's true life TV show, they have aired episodes where people loose excessive amounts of weight but end up gaining it back quickly because they had lost it just a quick.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your post because I can personally relate to everything you are discussing. My entire life I have struggled with maintaining a healthy weight. I would lose weight and gain it back. Your body has a comfort level where it is used to being that exact weight. During dieting and weightloss this is what many people refer to as hitting the plateau. In order to become healthy its not only about eating right and exercising, but it is a complete lifestyle change. People who are heavier and have more larger fat cells tend to not lose weight easier than someone who has less fat cells. That is why a person losing weight needs to do it gradually in order to stop relapsing back into their old weight. Its a new way of life and in order to become healthy and happier with yourself you need to have strong will power and the drive needed in order to change your life.
ReplyDeleteWow I really enjoyed reading this blog post as it relates to several people I know, and have issues with to this day. I never realized the issues with the fat cell counts and how they never truly go away. This is very interesting to me and should be expressed way more often with people trying to lose weight or starting a diet. Also, although losing the weight may be the hard part, it is maintaining the weight loss that is the struggle. It is so easy to fall back into tendencies and indulge, but in order to maintain nutrition and weekly exercises are important.
